What is parasite SEO? ( Why is it so Popular? )

Parasite SEO used to be extremely popular a couple of years ago, and they still work even today. Parasite SEO simply means that you take advantage of the high metrics of an established website and you either use it to rank the parasite or you use it as a tier-one backlink for your website. There are a lot of parasite sites which you can use, some are more popular than others and as time goes by some will die off while others will start being popular.

Parasite SEO is a link building strategy which takes advantage of the authority of an already established website which also allows users to add content, parasite websites are easy to rank, they don’t have a sandbox period, can be used to index the money site, as a backup plan, they are easy to automate, the quality of the content doesn’t matter, and they are low risk and high reward strategy. Although indexing them can be extremely difficult as google started to focus on websites using parasite SEO.

The main goal of using parasites is to rank on google, my personal recommendation is to use parasites from reputable websites which will actually improve your rankings Click here to check it out

Some websites which have been used as parasites have been spammed so much that google instantly flags these outbound links as spam, this is why some people have no success with parasites. The more popular a website is for parasite SEO the more likely it is that the links from it will not be considered by Google. Don’t get me wrong parasite SEO still works great and as google is making frequent updates you will see a lot of parasites popping up in the first position.

Websites like reddit.com and medium.com are often used as parasites, some people even use the parasites as actual money sites although if you don’t know what you are doing I do not recommend it. In the recent google updates, google started to experiment with user-generated content, this is why for so many keywords parasites rank better than niche relevant websites. You will often see websites like Quora and even Pinterest ranking in the first couple of spots for highly competitive keywords.

For a lot of bloggers, this is bad news, but these websites will not rank for a long time. User-generated content is the lowest form of content and if somebody is looking for in-depth information on a subject he won’t be happy looking at a Pinterest image, or a 200-300  word answer posted on Quora which is most likely copied from some other website. Some parasites have also some kind of voting system which shows the user which answer or post is most liked.

It seems that Google is taking these into consideration, the problem with this is that it is extremely easy to manipulate. Reddit has a voting system, the more upvotes you have the more likely it is that the post will rank on google, and buying Reddit upvotes is extremely cheap. This is the same case for Quora as it is often blasted with spinned answers made by bots. Easy to rank

One main reason why some webmasters use parasites in their SEO strategy is that they are extremely easy to rank. All good parasites have high DA, PA, and TF, this means that you can blast them with backlinks without having any problem. Usually, parasites tend to rank in just a couple of weeks, although this depends both on the competition and on the actual niche which you are targeting.

In some niches like health, fitness, and finance it will be extremely hard to rank a parasite although not impossible. Most people who use parasites will blast them with as many backlinks as they can, the worst thing which can happen is that google deindexes the parasite post although this rarely happens.

No sandbox period

New websites tend to have a fairly long sandbox period, during this time your website will not rank. A lot of people will say that there is no such thing as the sandbox period but usually, these are people who either never made a website or are simply clueless. Parasite websites tend to have high authority and most of them are websites targeting a lot of different topics, so the niche which you are trying to rank for doesn’t really matter.

Websites that are used as parasites often get hundreds if not thousands of new content made by users every day, and oftentimes the new content is indexed within a couple of hours. So instead of waiting 6-8 months until the sandbox period expires, you can expect results with the parasites in a couple of weeks as these do not have the same sandbox time.

Indexing money site

One strategy with parasites is to use them to index your new posts, although most bloggers won’t have this issue as google will index the new posts in a couple of hours. On the other hand, bloggers who have hundreds of posts, user-generated content, thin content or overall low-quality content will have an extremely hard time indexing their posts. What they tend to do is to use a parasite and place their links to the posts on the parasite and blast the parasite with backlinks so google indexes both the parasite and the low-quality content on their website.

People who use this strategy do not bother with the quality of the content, this is also true for the parasite as well. This is why you will often see a parasite website having no content, just links to their money site. If your website has been deindexed by Google then you can force it to be reindexed with a parasite post, although it depends on why it was deindexed in the first place, for more information check out my recent article How long before google reindexes my site? ( The Honest Truth ).

Backup plan

Some bloggers use parasites as a backup if their money site is already ranking they will make a couple of parasite websites and trying to rank them as well. This way one website can show up several times in the search results. Google doesn’t like showing the same website for a keyword more than once, although sometimes they do, most notably you will notice this double or triple listing when it comes to domains owned by Google, like google books, youtube, and google websites.

If you are just an average blogger than there is 0 chance that google will show your website ranking for a keyword more than once, basically the rules are not the same for everybody. This can be bypassed with parasites, although this takes a long time to do correctly but once you have your website on the first page and several of your own parasites ranking for the same keyword you will dominate that keyword.

This method is usually done in high competition niches, where every backlink counts, and with each Google update, the positions will be shuffled by google. Even if their money site doesn’t appear on the first page anymore, odds are that some of the parasites will still be in the SERP.

Easy to automate

In every marketplace which is selling backlinks or other SEO related services, you will see that parasites are selling like hotcakes. This is because they are extremely easy to automate, there are several Softwares which can be used and new ones pop up all the time. Although automation can be easily spotted by the google crawler but some of them still make it and become an extremely valuable parasite.

Usually, the content is not manually written, although some sellers will say that the process is 100% manual and whitehat, but if you have ever made 1 backlink on a parasite manually than you know that it takes around 10 minutes. Now imagine how much time would somebody spend on making hundreds of these parasites and for $5. Link building Softwares can build hundreds of links per minute, all you need is the software, a VPS, and some proxies.

Content doesn’t matter

One of the reasons why parasite SEO is so popular is because the content doesn’t really matter for them, oftentimes you can get away with scraped or spinned content. It is fairly rare to see a high-quality article on a parasite website, although some people who think they are doing whitehat SEO will write a high-quality article for the parasite. Although everything you do in order to manipulate rankings like link building is considered black hat not by just me but by google as well.

If you are thinking of investing time to make a high-quality article for a parasite than do yourself a favor and just publish the article on your website. The problem with parasites is that most people will not click on any of the links found on a parasite so your chances of getting traffic from them are slim to none, although there are some exceptions but only if you know what you are doing.

Low-risk high reward

Generally speaking, parasite SEO is considered low risk and high reward, although Google is slowly catching up and eventually it will start turning the table. Parasite SEO is low risk because you can get away with a lot of stuff, like spinned or scraped articles, blasting with backlinks, and using as many outbound links as you want. The odds of a person actually visiting one of these parasites are extremely low, and they are mainly used to rank the money site to which they are linking.

The worst thing that can happen is that Google won’t index the parasite, although if your backlink profile only has parasite backlinks than you might be penalized eventually. On the other hand the rewards can be massive, you can easily dominate a niche with a handful of high-quality parasites, most of them actually rank higher with each google update for some reason, and most importantly you are not risking your money site directly. One of the main reasons why parasites are so good in passing link juice is because they are low obl backlinks, for more information check out my recent article What are low OBL links? ( Where to get them? ).

Hard to index

Google has started to take a closer look at parasite SEO, and it is making things difficult for people who are using them, although if you take a look at the current SERP results you might think that Google is favoring them as they started to rank. The problem is that the spammiest of them have started to outrank established and high authority websites, by spammy I mean parasites that have no content and have hundreds of outbound links.

If you are in a community or on a forum about SEO then you have most likely noticed that a lot of people are complaining that they can not index parasites no matter what they do. Although parasites are extremely popular they have a massive weakness, most people use the same websites and google can quickly pick up spinned or scraped content and they simply refuse to index them. If you have several parasite pages on some high authority website and you cant get them indexed then move on, try to find another parasite website, no matter what you do if google has decided that it doesn’t want to index it then you have to move on.

You might also notice that sometimes google does indeed index the parasite fairly fast, only to drop it out of the serp after a couple of weeks, this is fairly normal, the odds of the parasite coming back are slim to none. Bypassing the indexing phase is fairly easy, if you have a couple of parasites that are already indexed than just change or add one or two paragraphs and place your links, even if the indexed parasite is targeting a different niche.

In conclusion

Parasite SEO is still one of the most popular ways of getting backlinks and boosting your rankings on google. Although these are not some kind of magic backlinks, and most of the more popular platforms have been spammed to death, the backlinks from these will have little to no value. Google is slowly cracking down on parasite websites, this is why they are making them increasingly hard to index.
